Enhancing Livelihoods Fund

The Enhancing Livelihoods Fund (ELF) was established in January 2015 as a joint initiative of Unilever, Oxfam and the Ford Foundation.

ELF provides finance and technical expertise for partners in Unilever’s supply chains to improve their social impact in sourcing from smallholder producers in a manner that minimizes risk for the smallholders, empowers women in the supply chain and improves conditions for workers.

Evidence of impact on WEE

Several projects and feasibility studies have been funded so far. In each of the projects, partners pay particular attention to the gender element of their intervention, usually conducting a gender analysis and designing the project in a way that addresses women’s economic empowerment or elements of women’s economic empowerment.

An example is showcased in this podcast.
